National Trout Centre

Situated beside the famous Tongariro River, you can see and feed wild Trout in their natural environment. The Visitor Centre is the home of an extensive collection of Taupo and freshwater fishing memorabilia. The highlight of your visit will be viewing many of New Zealand's native fresh water fish in our Genesis Energy Fresh Water Aquarium. Take a walk through the park, see trout in the underwater viewing chamber and take a 'Riverwalk' beside the famous Tongariro River. The national Trout Centre's mission, in partnership with the Department of Conservation, to enlighten and inform children and educate all visitors about Trout, the Taupo fishery, New Zealand freshwater ecology; to see and enjoy Trout in their natural habitat; to collect, preserve, maintain and display freshwater fishing memorabilia and artifacts and to encourage participation in recreational fishing as a healthy and pleasurable activity.

There is potential here to help with the implementation of a strong Youth Angling education resouce which in turn will develop affinities with the sport and the environment among our young folk.
